The following is an article from our friends at the Abilene Reporter-News.
She called it “a book club for introverts.”
Arlene Kasselman, owner of Seven and One Books, shared her excitement for the establishment of Abilene’s first-ever Silent Book Club.
Never heard of it before?
The global organization founded in 2012 started with an idea between a group of friends who enjoyed reading in “companionable silence” without the traditional book club pressures of meeting the assigned deadline or saying something remarkable in group discussions.
Built on the premise of community, comfort and books, the organization has grown with more than 500 chapters across 50 countries.
Kasselman first heard about the reading community from a customer’s direct message on social media.
“She sent me a link for the national organization, so I went to their Instagram and looked at it. I was like, “this is the coolest thing! It’s like a book club for introverts,’ ” Kasselman stated.
Eager to create a local chapter in Abilene, Kasselman tasked her son Spencer to research and connect with the national organization.
